Looking to rewire your brain for better emotional health?
This book is just that book. But first, I have to tell you why it caught my eye and why I read it. Imma gonna get real and personal for a hot minute. That’s the great thing about a blog, it’s like my journal that’s open to everyone, and if it’s something you can relate to or help a loved one, that’s my hope! I’ve been learning more about mediation and how to do it, why it’s helpful, and how to make it work in my life. I’ve read a few books, downloaded apps, but this book was a real game changer. You see, I have a brain that is on constant analyze/think/plan/ mode and it makes hard to relax and unwind some days. Small things can become a big ball of anxiety, and I’ve had times where it paralyzes me or makes it hard to socialize. My emotional fitness was out of shape.
Emotional Fitness, just like physical fitness, is an important part of balance in our lives.
I saw this book at the library in the New Releases and immediately was intrigued by the title. Who doesn’t want to create good habits of wellbeing? But where do we even start and how do we get to a point that it’s a habit? How do we exercise it? From the book’s website, this is how the book is described:
“Life Cross Training (LIFE XT) is a human performance program based on a simple yet revolutionary idea: just as we train our bodies for physical fitness, we can train our brains for wellbeing, resulting in optimized energy and productivity.”
The book is broken into sections to make a very easy read, using ancient wisdom and modern science techniques. It’s and easy to understand, instructional and full of beautiful life stories. The program teaches practices proven to rewire the brain for increased focus, engagement, and resilience to stress. By offering specific practices, habits, and assessments to manage your training and by helping to build up core skills such as mindfulness, gratitude, and compassion.
I’m working on the habits, and have been better able to control my anxiety, deal better with surprises in my day, and change my point of view in the way I look at situations or tasks that would have otherwise been very difficult for me.
I’m not totally there yet, but this is an amazing book that I highly recommend. If you feel stuck, dissatisfied, or unable to break through anxiety issues, or even just want to try meditation and see what that’s all about, check it out.
Love ya and hope you like this bite!
