Welcome to Jen Bites!
Bite-ology: (def) The philosophy that you can improve your life, happiness, and health one bite at a time.
What I want to share with you: DELISH, NOURISHING, UNIQUE, INVIGORATING, BEAUTIFUL, SOULFUL BITES. My daily life is far from perfect, but I’m continuing on a journey towards feeling my best, loving my body, and creating a life of good energy and health. I love learning wellness from others, how they live their best life. Everyone’s “best bites” in this beautiful life journey are going to be different. What works for me isn’t always going to to work for you. That being said, this blog is not about restriction, or “clean” eating, because honestly everyone’s perfect diet would be different and it’s OK to have a “dirty bite” occasionally, moderation is healthy! But this blog IS about whole food, what you CAN do to feel your best, and learn a little more about natural living. Those are the best BITES.
My Vision for the Blog
Bites of Food
The recipes I share are specifically dairy and gluten-free because those are the specific food sensitivities I/we have at our house, and I love helping people with dietary restrictions show them how they can cook and eat good whole food meals and snacks, not the processed and expensive gluten-free junk on shelves. When you eat well, you feel well. Most of my recipes will be plant-based because that’s the way I prefer to eat, but we are not vegan, and I don’t follow a specific diet. I eat wild-caught fish, organic-poultry, and some raw milk cheese/goat’s milk cheese. So there will be recipes for a wide variety of eaters, whether paleo, whole 30, vegan, sugar free, low carb, pescitarian, allergy-free etc. I recommend using the highest-quality or organic, sustainable meats, when possible, and the least amount of refined or processed ingredients. I have a sweet tooth and love to bake, so there are plenty of treat recipes, but made-over to be free of refined sugars and more natural.
Please email me with any favorite recipes you have that you want made-over! I love a challenge.
Bites of Fitness
Oh yes, I know you’re rolling your eyes at me because fitness is everywhere and everyone has a program or a challenge you should be following. I say just get MOVING everyday. Walk, hike, bike, HIIT, yoga, run, cycle, dance, for at least 30 minutes everyday! Find something you enjoy and it becomes easy to make the time. Fitness and wellness go hand in hand. That’s why I love mediation, yoga, long hikes, and hugs! It’s not only SWEAT and MOVEMENT, it’s about LOVING yourself, who you are, your body and your life EVEN IF it’s not perfect. We are all a work in progress. Just get moving. It’s been proven time and time again to not only be so good for your bones, muscles, and metabolism, BUT people, it’s a natural anti-depressant, it helps regulate sleep cycles, improves digestion, helps balance hormones, it does SO MANY good things for the body and mind. I am here to help educate and motivate you with small workouts that can be done quickly from home, and with the latest cool health information and tools.
Bites of Natural Beauty
After researching my hormone imbalance issues, having a latex allergy, and learning about diseases like Parkinsons and MS, I learned we are putting SO MANY chemicals on our body in our cosmetics, soaps, lotions, and beauty products that interfere with our hormones and are carcinogens or allergens. Here, is an article specifically about endocrine disruptors in cosmetics, and here is a good overview of what some of the key chemicals to stay away from are, what they’re in, and why. Yuck! I’m on a mission to find or make natural replacements for beauty products, because being an au naturale beauty is totally awesome, and you don’t even have to stop shaving and washing your hair! 😀 I have plans to put DIY beauty products, tutorials, and reviews of natural products under my Natural Beauty page here.
If you’d like to work with me and have a “bite” of knowledge or product to share, contact me HERE.
Whew, that about covers it!
